Dennis Rainey: If you're a single parent, do your spiritual batteries need recharging?

Guest: I was attending a prayer meeting the other day and I heard a single mother pour out her heart to us. She said, "I have to be the mom and the dad," and she said, "I haven't had anyone to hold me in eight years." And you could hear the anguish in her voice, and my heart went out to her.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: It is difficult for me to begin to imagine the suffering that a single parent has to endure.

I once interviewed a single mom, who told me that it helped her immensely to remind herself of everything God has done for her. Many times in the Psalms, King David had to remind his soul of all God's benefits. And that's what I want to encourage you to do today. Because if you forget what God has done in the past, you'll be tempted to forget Him today, too, and you might fail to trust Him for the future. But He has given us no reason, absolutely no reason, not to trust Him.

One final thought. Don't forget that God calls Himself the Father of the Fatherless and a Defender of widows. That's in Psalm 68. Look it up, read it, and recharge your spiritual batteries today by rehearsing what He's done for you.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.
